General
a. The innovation competition “Residential College Innovation Exhibition (RIX)” is organized by the the Residential College Support Unit (RCSU) with the support of the “Residential College (RC) Department of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. The RC is involved in the competition by providing financial support through the innovation competition.
b. The competition is governed by the provisions stated in these terms. Participation declares that participants have full knowledge of these terms and accept them and are binded by them. Accordingly, participation declares that participants accept the evaluation methods, criteria and decisions of all the responsible boards, committees and so far, involved in the competition. Participants do not have any other claims against any and all companies, organizations, individuals and anyone else involved in the organizing of the innovation competition “RIX”.
c. Organizer has the right to unilaterally change the terms of the competition, cancel it completely, extend or shorten any of the stages of the competition by giving notice through http://rix-utp.blogspot.com/ and other appropriate mediums. Participants cannot pursue any claims against “RCSU” and the “UTP” as a result of the above actions.
Objectives
The innovation competition “RIX” aims to:
- To increase students awareness about residential college environment
- To become medium for students to develop creative innovation as in line with UTP vision & mission
- To offer solutions for problems existing in residential college facilities
- To develop creative and innovative thinking among UTP students
- To introduce a systematic way of management for the residential college for the benefit of UTP community
Through this innovation competition, the next generation of innovators will be inspired. In participating in “RIX”, they will acquire the knowledge, skills and network needed to grow innovative, sustainable research.

The participants with the legal right to claim the award connected with the winning idea, as claimed by the participant must fulfill the following:
- Be registered UTP students
- Be private individual (or a team of private individuals up to 3 people).
- Have a legal right to the submitted idea. The legal rights means to have claim to royalties on the submitted application as such and the competition strictly respects the copyrights and protects intellectual property.
- Be present at the final stage of the innovation competition
In case the award is given to a group, as described above, who all have a legal right to the idea submitted, there will be only one award given and it will be distributed among the members of the team.
Terms and conditions
a. Participation in the competition
· Open to all UTP students
· Private individuals (or a team of private individuals up to 3 people).
All members of the organizer and members of UTP RCSU are strictly forbidden to participate in the competition.
b. All profit and non profit legal entities, representatives of these legal entities and any other entity which is created based on any legal documents are strictly forbidden.
c. As per declaration of the person submitting the idea, they must have a legal right to the submitted idea. The legal right as far as the competition “RIX” is concerned means to have the legal right to claim royalties on the idea submitted. Also it is explicitly stated that all participants must have the right to participate, promote and accept awards from the competition in regard to the submitted application as is stated in these rules and regulations
d. Every person has one right to participate by submitting an innovative idea with only one application.
Submission of application form
a. Applications should be submitted during RIX roadshow (23-25th of February 2011 at Pocket D) From 26th to 28th February, students who wish to enter should register through RIX blog http://rix-utp.blogspot.com/
b. Poster must be created on a question basis so as to contain, the main idea, the special characteristics. It should not be more than 1 page, including drawings, tables, graphs, is written in English language, font Arial, size 12, justified and 1.5 line spacing.
